Initially, formed by the deposition of the silt carried in the melt walter from the Lake District glaciers (as most of Wirral was...), it became dunes / desert. The shape of the dunes can be seen in the cutting for the road still. Lithification, followed by weather erosion has turned it into the haven it is now for outdoor pursuits.......... The erosion continues in this rather unique area, mainly due to the exposure to wind and rain and the soft nature of the sedimentary layers. Its one o' the best ride specs around Wirral, and used in conjunction with Caldy Hill and the Bomb Hole by the school, makes a very good circuit ! Recommendations ? Better done in bad weather or during the week, its no fun for anyone when there are hordes of urban escapees around....... |
