| Report ..... Initially, there was to be a league, but during the warm up it quickly became apparent that there may be time issues ! So it was agreed to change the format to a knockout competition (more l8a !) The opening game was played by Dave & Bones, with Bones taking a 2 - nil spanking at the hands of Daves Tournament totty .... Next up, Bram & Andy. Having read and inwardly digested the manual during the opener, Andy took to the court with aplomb, leaving Bram with much work to do, and after 2 games the match was tied, with Andy giving Bram a wake up call in the second, but finally succumbing to the superior serves & spikes distributed by the Bram cru..... At this point, the penny dropped that the lions share of the points would be distributed amongst Bram & Dave in their play off for first and second. With Andy's call 'I was robbed' becoming something of an echo ........ Sour grapes ? ;-) Methinks it was 'cos he felt he may have been able to take second, had everyone played in a league ...... It was even suggested, by the losers, I might add, that the points scored in the 3 games should be added to define winner ! Just win the games, much simpler ........ The 3rd & 4th positions to be decided first, Andy (i wuz robbed..)& Bones (...but which one do i press) played, Andy ( wobbed I was ...)took all his frustrations out on the Bones (.. which red one ) cru, giving them a sound and veritable thrashing, tho' not quite giving him a tin hat, it was, however, a rout. Next up, the premier league (hehehehehehehe !) Dave and Bram to play off for first and second ..... A very close match, there only being 4 points in it in the first game, in Brams favour, Dave came out for the second with iron constitution and secured a comfortable win. The decider was a hard fought melee, with the serve changing more than a ladies mind. At one point the rascally Reeves was out in front by 11 to 7, causing Bram's team to take stock and keep their head down .. just kept missing their combos ..... but recover they did, and at 12 - 12 the crowd was almost paying attention. Had they been awake, they would have witnessed the final score of 2 games to 1, in Brams favour, securing top points for the Bram contingent, in his first chosen game, phew ....... ! Final scores : 4 to Bram 3 to Dave 2 to Andy (apparently a victim of theft) and 1 to Bones (what did we play 2nite then) |
